Sara True is a traveler, poet, and painter whose work has been exhibited internationally. Born in California, she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from UC Santa Cruz and studied at the Hellenic International School of the Arts on Paros Island, Greece, and at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. She has also lived and worked in Spain, where her research on the art of flamenco has culminated in lectures at UCLA and University of Memphis. Her paintings, performance art, and multimedia collage pieces are intuitive, gestural expressions of abstract ideas. She translates philosophy and theory into a unique language of color and texture. True’s process evokes the musicality and impulsive intensity of Abstract Expressionism combined with a deep spirituality that draws from the healing modalities of acupuncture and Vipassana meditation. True views the work as a constant confrontation with the overwhelming wonder, terror, beauty, and joy of reality. In Autumn 2017, she will continue exploring these notions as she pursues her MFA at Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design in London, England.
