Sara True is a traveler, poet, performer, and painter whose work has been exhibited internationally. Born in California, she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from UC Santa Cruz and an MA in Performance, Design, and Practice from Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design in London. She has studied at the Hellenic International School of the Arts on Paros Island, Greece, and at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. She has also lived and worked in Spain, where her research on the art of flamenco has culminated in lectures at UCLA and University of Memphis. Her paintings, performance art, and multimedia collage pieces are intuitive, gestural expressions of abstract ideas. She translates philosophy and theory into a unique language of colour and texture. True’s process evokes the musicality and impulsive intensity of Abstract Expressionism combined with a deep spirituality that draws from the healing modalities of acupuncture and Vipassana meditation. She views the work as an exploratory conversation with the wonder, terror, beauty, and joy of reality.
